Masthead Ideas

The fonts I have chosen are mostly Block fonts which has a huge and quick impact as it instantly grabs and draws attention. It will also stand out from the rest of the texts/images on the page.

title This is my second draft.

This was the third draft I created for my mastheads. I have a selection of different colours which are cohesive to the colours used on my front cover after my original picture was deleted. This is because the masthead above is not reflective of the house style.

Audience Research and Analysis

questionnare

This is the questionnare I have created for my target audience. I have printed off 20 copies to give a large group which would give me more basis to base it round.

Features of my magazine that are 100% : Name of the band, Pictures I will need, Genre, target audience
Features that aren’t set in stone : Article content, freebies

image

This is my analysis for the questionnaire that I have asked 20 people in my target audience to fill out.

– It is clear that the my magazine will be aimed at 15-19 year olds as they are 85% of those who responded.

– It is also apparent that there is a relatively larger number of females interested to males.

– Half of them are willing to pay £2.10-£3 with only 20% willing to pay above £3.

– Most importantly, this will be a monthly magazine with a similar content to picture ratio with slightly more content. This will be aimed at more intellectual readers.

– To calculate which is the most important convention for my magazine, I added up the number position for each of the 7. The ones with the lowest score (music reviews, gossip and interviews) will be the focus of my magazine. Likewise, what will attract my consumers will be this and therefore, supporting this, the cover lines they have chosen are interviews and gossip.

– The choice for artist on the front cover is a close fight, however one direction have 25% of the votes. As a result, I am choosing to disregard this question as what I deduce from this is that as long as the artist is well known, the magazine will be bought. Also, since there is a huge difference between the male and female ratio, clearly there would be an interest in a boy band / male solo artist at the time. This will therefore be featured somewhere in my contents page.

Summary of Final Magazine Choice

The genre of my magazine will be mainstream magazine which will appeal to a wide audience range. The name of my magazine is ‘Volume’ as it has connotations of being loud. The magazine will feature well known artists at the time, mostly will be chart artists such as Rihanna, Taylor Swift and One Direction as they are popular and well known worldwide.

The target audience will be wide however, it will be marketted to those aged 15-19 year olds (mainly females) most of them will most likely still be students with a interest in chart artists who are popular at a particular period. To cater to them, I will ensure the artists used are popular at the time, with interviews, gossip, new music, ect.

Adverts in the magazine will be fashion based on high street stores (such as Topshop, New Look) so that they can afford the magazine. There will also be adverts on new songs to promote other music which may interest the audience.

To find our how to cater to specific needs, I will gave to use questionnaires and interviews with the target group.

My main feature will be of a new solo artist ‘Tyler Thompson’. She will also feature in the double page spread.
Her style will be easy to copy and so it will be easy for my reader to relate to them.
She links in with the genre as she is a ‘hot-topic’ at the time and will be of interest to the target audience.

Inspiration : Little Mix. They are quirky, youthful and fun, similar to my target audience. They are mainstream as they have appeared on the Xfactor, a show with high ratings, therefore very popular.
