MY COPY OF THE GQ MAGAZINE FRONT COVER :

Untitled

We were asked to recreate the front cover for the GQ magazine in order to practise and get used to the software to create out own magazine. This was to help us be more aware of the particular conventions of magazines such as images, fonts, ect.

Prior to this, we have worked on various softwares such as Publisher, Paint and Photoshop. Quark was easy to use and we were able to do various different things in order to create a more professional magazine.

The different tools used were :
1) CROPPING : there were various methods and much more advanced methods to crop my work. Instead of the usual, standard crop box, we were able to use the Magnetic Lasso Tool to get a much more accurate crop.

2) OPACITY TOOL :

We used the opacity tool to make certain aspects of the magazine more prominent, and so they stand out in contast to the text on the front cover. This allowed a more professional look.

For the texts, selection was particular hard to find one close matching to the text used by GQ magazine. I used tracking and leading to adjust the space in between the letters to stretch the text over the page. this made the magazine much closer to the original GQ magazine. This convention is used in many differen professional magazines to ensure fonts fit on a certain part of the page.

This exercise will help me when recreating my magazine as we will be comfortable and more skilled when doing our music magazine. this would speed up the process of creating and designing the magazine as we will know the appropriate functions to use.

When making a magazine, it is extremely important to be aware that every aspect and detail of the magazine has to be fully thought through in order to create the final product. The fonts, pictures and colours have to be carefully chosen to compliment each other to allow a more aesthetic feel to the magazine.
